Shaping the EU’s post-2020 Internal Market for Electricity

We worked with the European Climate Foundation in Brussels over several years to promote maximum ambition on the EU’s “Clean Energy for All Europeans Package”, a package of EU legislation aimed at reforming and decarbonising the EU’s internal electricity market.

As part of this we worked with a range of think tanks, from E3G to the Regulatory Assistance Project and others to make the case for a reformed EU internal electricity market able to incorporate higher levels of renewables through energy efficiency, smart demand response and better interconnection.

Our work included launching Cleaner, Smarter, Cheaper, a ground-breaking piece of economic modelling by Artelys for the Energy Union Choices group, introduced by the then Vice President of the Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič and we helped publish Towards Fossil-Free Energy in 2050, a landmark contribution to the debate around the role for zero-carbon gases and renewable electricity in a net-zero emissions European energy system.
