Campaigning for an Ambitious EU Circular Economy Package

We worked with UK think tank Green Alliance to establish a new research and advocacy organisation in Brussels, The Alliance for Circular Economy Solutions, as the European Commission re-introduced its package of waste, recycling and eco-design legislation via the EU Circular Economy package.

Members of the new association were drawn from a range of business and environment groups across the EU, including the Institute for European Environment Policy; De Groene Zaak, the leading Sustainable Business Association in the Netherlands; the Ecologic Institute and UnternehmensGrün, the German Federal association for the green economy. The aim was to push for a much more ambitious EU Circular Economy package, with higher targets for waste reduction, product re-use and recycling. The Waste Framework Directive that eventually emerged was much more ambitious both in terms of overall targets and also in terms of product re-design.
